Why didn't the starter just start the race? Seems odd that they'd wait around for him. I've seen starters start races when kids forgot their goggles. |
DP - why didn't the ref (or whomever) communicate an official delay to the rest of the swimmers? It doesn't add up. Tangentially, at meets at which I've timed, the NCAP swimmers are comical in the degree of chest-slapping, bouncing, etc., that they do relative to other teams. 99% of them can't stand still until they're on the blocks. It's bizarre. |
I feel like all the big boys do this in the 15&Up crowd. I don't think it is just NCAP. |
Incorrect. He quite obviously was making everyone wait. I agree the refs should have DQd him but his bravado was disgusting and a poor reflection of the club ethos |
Except he was the only one that did it |
I'm talking about 12&U, PP. It's only NCAP swimmers doing it at that age. |
No, it’s not. I was at NCI this weekend with my 12 and under swimmer and the vast majority of them are bouncing behind the blocks, slapping their arms and legs, etc., regardless of the club. They are mimicking what they see the Olympic swimmers do. Relax. These kids are all actually pretty friendly with each other because they see each other at the high level meets, etc. It’s pretty cool to see the friendships they make with swimmers from other clubs. |
It's only the NCAP swimmers at the meets I've been to. I can see doing it at high-level ones like NCI, but random Open meets? And, yes, it's only NCAP. There are ~12 clubs at the meets I'm talking about, and it's only the NCAP swimmers bouncing around (and whom I have to explicitly tell to step back so I can time properly). |
Why the NCAP hate? It’s not our club, but it seems a little over the top? |
Honestly, because they are good and so the parents of the kids at mediocre clubs are bitter. |
I’m going to call BS on the idea that at a huge open meet with 12 clubs that the only kids bouncing around behind the blocks are with NCAP. There is no chance that is true. But continue on with the NCAP hate. |
I’m not talking about excited kids - of course they’re excited and talkative and energetic. I mean the very specific flex-type stuff that you see some Olympic swimmers do. It’s not all NCAP swimmers, but the only ones who do it are them. I don’t care if you believe me or not. I also don’t hate NCAP. They’re more intense than I want for my young kids, but obviously many families find them a good fit. |
Swimmers are supposed to bounce around before they race. It's good that they are taking Open meets seriously. |
I don’t believe you because I have a 12 and under swimmer and I time at least 1 session of most meets and the bouncing, slapping, etc. before a race is not specific to NCAP. We have been at meets this year with Machine, TOLL, YORK, to name a few and kids from all of those clubs do it. Pretty sure if you went to an RMSC meet their swimmers and those from ASA do it too. |
Agreed. I was at Winter Classic all weekend and there was PLENTY of slapping and jumping. All ages and both genders. |
