Cooking Fish

Is there a way to cook without the whole house smelling? I baked sea bass today. And the house reeks -- top to bottom.

Sorry to state the obvious, but did you use the exhaust hood/fan? I find that helps a lot.

Maybe try poaching? Or slow roasting?

Cook something like smelly garlic bread simultaneously

Buy fresher fish. I cook fish all the time, and my house never reeks from it. If I open the refrigerator and smell the fish at all, it needs to be tossed, not cooked.

Most of the smell comes from the skin. I always remove it (or have the fish guy do it) before I cook it.

oh i know, just put some fabric softener(half cup) in a pot with about 3 cups of water and let it boil slowly, while fish bakes, good point about removing skin, but also put sliced lemons at bottom of fish before laying it in pan to bake or in pot, reduces the rankness. also, fresh fish should not be that stinky.... heads up there shopper, check your supermarket!! your chef
