| Capital Orange to University of New Hampshire -M |
| This is not a dis on where girls are committing to play lacrosse at, but this year the overall quality of schools that Cap Orange are committing to is way down from previous years (ie last year you had Ivy commits on Cap Orange). I don't think the quality of players on the team is down from previous years so is it (1) roster caps related to the NCAA settlement are causing coaches to already have smaller class sizes and/or (2) the quality of players from the rest of the country is getting better? |
Great kid! Congratulations! |
I think the number of Blue committed to Ivy is much higher than previous years leaving less room for Orange. I would imagine it is simply a type of student factor. More high academic kids on Blue that want Ivy this year than in years past? |
For the love of all that's holy, college coaches in the Ivy or otherwise do not have a certain number of slots to fill from certain club programs. They are attempting to get the best 8-11 players that they can. |
| The point was simply that compared to years past Capital as a whole has sent more players Ivy this year than the last five years. |
Interesting questions got me thinking... 1 - it is way too soon to tell 2 - yes I think the most significant change this year is not in the size of a recruiting class but in how aggressively schools recruited this class. The frenzy of September was different from previous years. Compared to the 25 class, the 26 class had about 19% more commits in September and about 24% fewer recruits in October. However, on balance through September and October, the class of 26 committed more players than the class of 25 did. Compared to the 24 class, the 26 class has committed 31% more players (204) by the end of October and 81% more players by the end of September. (according to WLAX Recruiting numbers) Time will tell, but my sense on recruiting is that schools were more prepared to recruit in September and adjusted their tactics to give players less time to hold an offer or shop schools. I believe that means it's become more challenging to work your way onto a list that you weren't already on going into Sept 1. We won't know if the overall number of players recruited will be lower until we complete the cycle through next Summer. In the future, I think it will be harder to get recruited to programs that are succeeding because of the transfer portal (access to proven players) and how thoroughly a school can evaluate (video quantity and QUALITY, in-person events, social media) a player prior to Sept 1. Not to mention there are more good players to choose from spread across teams and regions (growth of sport and coaching resources). This creates less reliance on club affiliation / where the player grew up. In addition, because of enforced roster caps or coaches just deciding they want fewer players for whatever reason, rosters will most likely decrease. Ultimately, I believe we will find a broader distribution range of recruiting results (D1 2, 3, rankings, high academic, conference, etc) within individual teams. Yes, there will be some outliers every year, but I think the overall market dynamic is here to stay. |

It really is amazing how quickly things happen in September. Having a good club with coaches that keep you in the loop before September 1 is key to managing expectations. |
