What is the point of belittling people who are concerned or upset? It’s not helpful. |
David Blake leaving is a HUGE loss for the school. His division has been the most stable the last few years. |
I’m grateful DB hung on this long (through the chaos and until his youngest graduated). His departure is another loss for the community. His institutional memory and commitment to the school’s longstanding core values will be missed. Yes, his departure may have been foreseeable, but another long-time leader (who now heads 2 divisions, one of which (MS) has been, by far the most stable and successful of all the divisions for many years), is tough. |
New HoS, for better or worse, will be able to assemble (largely) their own Admin Council. Good, because they can have their own people. Bad, because unless they promote from within, that’s a ton of on-boarding in a community that is fragile/frustrated/distrustful of “new.” Virtually no one left with any institutional memory. |
Exactly how does the school plan to start in fall 2025 with hardly any admin? |
To those on this thread who are "in the know": Any chance of former staff returning next year now that RG is gone? |
I would doubt it as they all took new jobs. Why would they quit a new job to return here unless the new place isn’t working out |
Absolutely not! I get paid more to deal with significantly less stress in a MUCH more stable environment. I would never work at school with admin that have no longstanding experience at the school at EVERY level.
|
No matter where they went, they'd take a HUGE pay cut coming back to ssfs. |
Totally don’t blame you. I don’t see why anyone would see this as an opportunity until the turmoil is behind us. Things don’t fix themselves over night. And new leadership doesn’t guarantee better leadership. We need to see who come and how things look. That’s why we are not re enrolling. |
By hiring new people. Hiring searches are underway and new people will be in place by summer. |
Obviously. But the concern isn’t that bodies won’t be there come September. It’s just with such a major overhaul of almost every admin position how do families put their faith into the school or know that if they send their kid to this school it will be at all what they expect it to be? Seems like there can’t possibly be any institutional continuity at the top level. |
The continuity at SSFS (and a most private schools) comes from the teachers and other folks who have been here a long time - I"m thinking about MS folks such as FZ. I feel quite confident that any new admins will NOT be aiming to ruffle feathers as they will be acutely aware they are stepping into a fragile situation. New admins will likely spend the first year getting to know the community and meeting with faculty to understand SSFS and assess needs. I'm actually very excited for the overhaul at the top! |
I’m always perplexed by people who say admins essentially don’t matter cause it’s the teachers that matter. Of course yes teachers have a lot to do with things, but admins matter to teachers.
Ssfs current problems start with one admin. He’s why we lost a lot of other good admin and teachers alike. So to say it’s all going to be great after a complete overhaul of admin because a few teachers haven’t left yet …. I mean sure it might turn out great. But the new admin may be as bad or worse. And that’s going to affect the effect the teachers. The point is none of knows what next year holds cause we don’t know any of the major decision driving admin. |
I think there will be current middle school faculty who will leave at the end of this year because of David Blake's departure. That division has been the most stable and that is because of DB. Had he left when my child was in the middle school, I am not sure if we would have stayed with all the changes in the community due to Rodney. I have to imagine that at least some of the current SSFS fifth grade families are looking at options for next year after the announcement.
