How to incorporate more Protein into my diet to lose weight?

Anonymous
So, I have not lost my baby weight and it's been a year. My OB suggested I incorporate more protein into my diet. So every meal must contain at least one protein. I do not eat red meat, veal, or pork. Only fish, chicken, and turkey. So what would you suggest for a protein rich breakfast besides hard boiled eggs? Does adding protein really make you lose weight? Any receipes or ideas would be helpful.

I am like you, only I don't eat fish either. Here is a great breakfast that has plenty of protein (over 20 g I think). I got the recipe on a splurge trip to Canyon Ranch. You can do it for lunch, too. Combine in blender 1 c skim milk, 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder from Whole Foods, 1/2 banana, and 1/2 c frozen mixed berries. I pre slice and freeze the bananas and put them in individual baggies with the berries so that breakfast is super easy. You can throw in flaxseed oil or a couple T of oats if you need those in your diet, and sometimes I also have a slice of Ezekiel toast if I'm hungry. Good luck!

Protein helps keep you satisfied longer than carbs. Read South Beach Diet for an overview (you don't have to do the actual diet, but I think it gives a good run down on the glycemic index, etc).

Protein is found in nuts, peanuts, beans, dairy, as well as meat.

Breakfast ideas: veggie quiche (make crustless, if you'd like), veggie omelet, smoked salmon (try rolling it up with a slice of cheese), granola & yogurt with berries.

Also try to make yourself have a small snack twice a day. The snack should also have protein (PB on apple slices, a handful of nuts, slice of turkey rolled with a slice of cheese, hummus with carrot sticks), too.

And cut out the processed, white carbs (pasta, white rice, white bread, sweets).

Protein bars and shakes are good, but you need to watch your intake. There are some Cliff Kids bars that are good and not too bad for you. Also, Atkins bars are good and full of protein and they're not all too high in calories. You can also get Special K protein water which will help you feel full without a lot of caloires, but it's hard to find. Sometimes you can get it at the Supermarket in powder form to add to water on the go.

Why don't you try Weight Watchers? It's worked for so many people I know. Including me!

I diddo the greek yogurt. I think it has helped me lose weight (w/ exercising, etc.)

Granola and quiche are not going to help you lose weight. I'd try a formal program, like Weight Watchers, South Beach, or Atkins.

OP, why do you eat poultry but not mammal meat? Curious as to your reasoning here.

I love greek yogurt as a side with cooked eggs - especially great if you have the energy to make a greek omelet.

Cheese - melt on bagels, toast or eat plain.

Kashi cereals (some of them) have protein. Go Lean Crunch is one version. Also has a ton of fiber. But alas - it also has a decent amount of sugar.

For quick, easy and filling, I go with peanut butter Yes it has fat, but I find that eating some fat first thing really gives me more energy throughout the day. Making sure I get enough fat has actually helped me to lose weight (because I'm not starving and don't crack and grab a handful of junk to eat)

Peanut butter on toasted whole wheat bagel. Really fills me up in the morning. I agree with PP about getting (healthy) fats.
