Do you decorate the car for the last day of school pickup?

My kids go to aftercare so I don't usually pick them up in the line. Last day has no aftercare and there's no busses at our school besides for SPED. I thought it would be cute to have some balloons from the dollar store out the window when I pick them up today. I saw another parent do this last year, and a few had decorated cars.

Is this one of those "unnecessary spending/going overboard" things, or do you do it and it makes your child smile?

I've only seen that for seniors in high school decorating their car.

Maybe do something other than helium balloons, OP. Helium is always a critical component of scientific research, and since it's a byproduct of (mainly Qatari) natural gas, right now supplies are depleted because supplies can't get through the Strait of Hormuz.

No, definitely not. The kid should be smiling because it's the last day of school. Maybe just go get ice cream or something. No need to compete with the other car decorators for coolest car.

I probably wouldn't do balloons due to losing them and visibility impairment. It's not a common thing but you do you.

Maybe have a balloon at home?

Be honest, you don’t live in the DMV

No. This is so dumb.

My kid walks themselves home, and then we go out for ice cream.

No. We used to go for ice cream, or go to the bookstore to get something new to read.

I do pick her up at school and take a picture of her coming out of the entrance. And I give her a lollipop when she comes out.

I noticed Fairfax launches their summer reading program the same day school ends. That could be a good follow up. Get the reading log and a pile of books.

We have a little lag between school ending and day camp starting so we'll have some fun those days.

It’s a tradition at our K-8 school to do it for graduating 8th graders. Not for any other grade though.

This is op, well I got 2 balloons, and you guys are right, I should have thought about the helium shortage. They didn't even have any at the dollar tree, they just had leftover ones which I guess could have been thrown out so I don't feel too bad about it.

No I don't live in the DMV lol.

As far as the ice cream thing, I bought treats for them to have while we swim and bbq at home today. Will report back on if they thought the balloons were dumb or if it made them happy.

My kids had a rough year, both had teachers take maternity leave (one was 7 months with no long term substitute, I was the sub for about 4 weeks of it and the class was struggling!) so I wanted to do a little something.

The reward is being on summer break. You don't need to make it right, what's done is done.
