| Every time I walk past the fresh premade meals the shelves are full. The prices are pretty much what a dish costs at a restaurant… I see people buying sushi but that’s about it. What’s the appeal of a cold spaghetti pasta dish at a grocery store that costs $30? The meals all look decent but the prices are bonkers. Once I bought some hot chicken noodle soup at Whole Foods for $22 and didn’t realize how much it was until I rang it up. Never again! |
| I did, back when they had $6 dinner deals. Alas, that was 15 years ago. |

We've bought a couple things. Usually when we are in a rush and/or people want something we wouldn't make at home. DS loves a vodka pasta dish with sausage that no one else would eat. So sometimes we get that for him. We are much more likely to get the prepared meat/seafood dishes that just have to get thrown in the oven.
However, we've definitely not paid anywhere close to $30 a dish. |
This but I agree the inflation is insane and don’t buy it any more. |
+1 Wondered that also. |
| I did when the prices were better; mashed potatoes and occasionally chicken. Now it’s too expensive. |
| We buy the masked potatoes occasionally. When it was cheaper we would get the teriyaki salmon and the shrimp and grits in the gold pans. DH will always get sushi and sometimes a poke bowl. |
|
Occasionally for something like a kid bday party if we are there for other stuff. Can get some platters and prepared food that is better than Safeway but I'm not looking to serve a dinner party level meal or my own cooking or actual restaurant takeout.
But very infrequent on our end. |
I also wondered this. I also wonder about the wegmans food bars. They’re crazy expensive. If they don’t sell all this food, what happens to it? |
All the hot chicken gets shredded and turned into chicken salad. That pasta gets turned into "lasagna soup" and so on |
| I am perplexed by this question. Of course people buy it. Otherwise, they would not sell it. |
| I recently got some of the prepared chinese food and regretted it. It was the same price as we can get it from a takeout chinese place and it wasn’t any better quality. I really don’t see the point. I would guess most of these are purchased on impulse but I doubt people do it more than once after they realize that it’s not worth it. |
Hah, our experience exactly. Have bought similar items while traveling and thought it would be better than some random take-out. SPOILER: it was not and it cost just as much. We now actively avoid it. |
It goes onto the dumpster. |
| I sometimes grab them to take to work when I know I'm going to have an 10+ hour day at work and won't be able to get out. |
