Colors are awful everywhere. Everything is neutral with very little real color, and then when pieces are available in brighter colors it's often the trendiest things that just aren't very versatile. Everything is blah.
However I do like a few of the current trends. This year I've bought a couple menswear style vests in linen, and have discovered it's a really versatile piece. I can layer it over something else or wear it on its own, it looks cute with jeans, skirts, suiting pants, even a pair of tailored shorts. Probably my favorite clothing purchase in recent memory.
I also like what's available in terms of pants and skirts. I know lower waists are coming back in style but higher waists aren't going away which I appreciate because that's what I need. It seems like the comically wide leg styles have given way to more straight, boot cut, or like a draped wide leg that isn't as bulky, and I like those options. I appreciate that midi and knee length skirts are everywhere, these are so practical and I love them as a pants alternative at work. I like that I see lots of styles in linen, poplin, and other natural fabrics that are breathable.
Tops and dresses are kind of a mess. That's probably why I love the vests I bought. It's so hard to find tops that look good and work well in my wardrobe. So many weird necklines, cropped hemlines, unnecessary details like lacing and flounces. Fabrics are ugly, patterns are ugly. Other than those vests, the only tops I've bought in recent years have been basic tees and sweaters. I can't find a blouse I don't hate no matter what price point I look at (and when I move into higher prices, I rarely feel the quality actually merits the price). I know it's not just me because when I see celebs or socialites in magazines, they are also either wearing basic tees or ugly tops. It's a scourge. Dresses are mildly better but have some of the same problems, plus no one can figure out what formality level we should be defaulting to, so a lot of dresses are like "this is cute but the back is open and I can't wear that to work" or "this is fine for my most formal work needs but will look stuffy and weird everywhere else." This is a cultural problem, it's not the clothes, but I notice it when I'm shopping.
I still find clothes I like and that work for me, but I do think fashion in general is at a bit of a low point, made worse by economic malaise, tariffs, the influence of the tech world (which has no real taste), and the fascination with "luxury" and how that influences fashion. I would love if fashion were fun again.
