I wish there was a way to get updates...

Just decided to scroll to an old page and landed on a post from 2008. The mom was worried about their 9th grader and first day of school. Wonder how things played out long term. All of these moments that cause us so much angst that we seek comfort from strangers but at some point they pass and resolve.

Hi OP! I understand and have held onto hope from updates stories. I found a post I wrote on 12/24/24 and will copy it below but here is my update!

My son is an senior and is moving away to college this fall. I never thought that would have happened 4-5 years ago. We spent the past year touring schools and found the school and program that’s the perfect fit for him and he’s very excited to move away. He matured so much his senior year and puberty did wonders for him all around. He ended up getting a job and realizing school was something he needed to just do to get the HS diploma. We didn’t help manage his senior year classes at all.

I’m nervous about him moving away but think he will be okay and do just fine. We see how seriously he takes his part time job and enjoys working. Things started getting better at 16 and dramatically better at 17/18. He is no longer taking any medication.

Here was my post from 2024.

Last year was one of the worst of my life and I was on here a lot. Last Christmas Eve and Day was a very dark time. My teen was unregulated with medication changes and our entire house was turned upside down. We didn’t have Christmas Eve or day as a family and I felt wrecked to the core.

All of you were so supportive through the ups and downs and I just realized I haven’t been checking this forum as much in the past few months. Things have been pretty stable and day to day life has been going on. It’s shocking what a difference a year can make.

Our family is far from perfect. There were still some outbursts and some yelling but everyone had dinner together both days. We opened presents and were together. My teen with SN just gave me a big hug and said good night and Merry Christmas. I’m feeling hopeful about the future.

I don’t really have a point other to say sometimes when I was feeling hopeless I held onto any of your positive stories. Thank you.

I’ve thanked you before, but especially to the parent who told the story of her kid who matured later and went to CC and then GMU. Thank you. I’ve thought of your story often and it’s given me strength in these rocky teen years. I see the maturity slowly happening too. Happy holidays.
