I have chronic shoulder tightness,at the level of the fascia (muscle massage does not address the issue). anyone tried rolfing?

I have, in college. I worked for a guy who was an elite master Rolfer, of which there are apparently not many in the U.S. (that's not really the proper name for one, but you get the idea.) He trained in Germany, etc. Was also a Jungian therapist, FWIW.

Anyway, two memories -- one, it worked to an extent. After several sessions my screwed up fascia in my forearms / elbows were improved. They had been injured from waiting tables. Nothing else had really helped, like heat or icing, but Rolfing did improve the pain.

Two. The sessions hurt like a mother #$%#. Like painful late-stage contractions. I thought my arm was broken (it wasn't).

I've been working on the same issues, but not with the method you are describing here. For a year, I've been unravelling the mess in my neck, back, and shoulders with a woman in Lovettsville, VA. It's taken a year so far, but she has been successful in putting me back together after all my athletics when I was young. She is $100/hr and does not take insurance. She uses very gentle techniques as well. Only rarely does she need to put an elbow into my muscle which is incredibly painful. IF you're interested in her name, let me know.

I have and it changed my body so dramatically that I went to school to become a practitioner.
