| Am trying to understand why Subaru radically redsigned the Outback to look like a Tonka car but only that, it's near indistiguishable from the latest Forrester too. What are they trying to achieve here? Are they giving up the wagon entirely? |
|
It’s hideous. It’s so hideous and it makes me so mad because Volvo is ending their wagons and VW ended theirs. And Audi and BMW and Mercedes are just $$$$$.
I am trying to convince DH to drive the family car/schlep kids to college/road trip car so that I can get rid of my minivan for a Volvo V60 cross country while they still exist. I have always wanted one and the (old) Subaru Outback was going to be my runner up if Volvo wagons went away. |
| I like it. I'm a Subaru person soon getting a new car, and the Forrester I have now is a bit too big, and the Crosstrek is a bit too small, and I refuse to drive a station wagon. For aesthetic reasons. They just feel embarrassing to me, as does a minivan. I'm not driving them. But now the Outback now looks more like an SUV. So I'm more willing to consider it. |
We test drove a 2024 V60 a couple of weeks ago and it was so nice. |
Isn’t the Outback bigger than te Forester? |
| Our older station wagon Outback is bigger than the same year's Forester. |
It is. But the Forrester is taller. And what I'm after is a car that is lower to the ground, since my older dog and my tiny dog want to jump out of the back seat and it's hard on their joints. Either way, when I bought the Forrester it looked like a small SUV to me, whereas the Outback looked like a wagon. |
| It's still lower to the ground, which makes it more wagon-like. But I dislike this trend of making SUVs boxy again. |
Funny. My parents owned the jeep larado in 1990. If you looked on the title it listed the jeep as a station wagon. That’s still try today that they are a station wagon that is taller. |
|
I saw it in person when I took my current Outback for service. I tried to have an open mind.
The outside is hideous with all of the cladding. The inside looks nice enough, but it is an SUV. The hood no longer slopes. I literally have to check the back of the car to distinguish it from a Forester. It's about .5 or 1 inch taller. It's really too bad, because I love my Outback. It is the perfect no nonsense wagon that is fun to drive. |
It is just so so hideous. The exterior has no redeeming qualities. I just don't know what subaru was thinking. |
Maybe it's what the lesbians wanted? |
You think lesbians wanted a Tonka toy? I don't know what to say about the Outback redesign. It's radically different. I saw one next to a Honda CRV and they're about the same height, so it looks like Subaru is trying to turn the Outback into another CRV or Toyota RAV. But since they already have the Forrester, then what is the point? It does give me an excuse to hold on to my Outback longer than planned. But if I had to replace the car tomorrow I would not be buying this latest Outback. I might as well just get the CRV or RAV or find a slightly used Outback from 2024-2025. |
| Drove behind one during rush hour yesterday. The new Outback looks a lot like a Toyota 4-Runner or Honda Pilot. It is not like a RAV4 or CR-V -- it is much larger. |
Even the Ascent is smaller than a Pilot. The Outback is nowhere close. |
