Tell me about your worst trip or a trip gone wrong

Misery loves company, right? Just got home from a trip to a bucket list destination for me (Japan). Traveled with someone we've never traveled with before (my sister's new husband), and the whining and complaining and pouting from him nearly ruined this trip for me.

ugh.

Ours wasn't so high stakes- but we took our kids to Baltimore when they were young (three kids 6 and under). They all ended up with some kind of cold virus, and one of them was constantly coughing all night long, keeping everyone else awake. They alternated being miserable, and very whiny. It was awful enough that we cut the trip short and came home early.

My honeymoon in Antigua was absolute misery. Unbearable heat (in October), biting bugs everywhere. Our "resort" looked waaaaaay better online and lost power every day. The pool was closed. Our AC was a window unit that didn't work. Oh God. I need a do-over.

Camping halfway up the Grand Canyon, I got up to pee in the middle of the night. Apparently a scorpion followed me into the tent and we both ended up with bites, We spent the rest of the night trying to sleep atop the picnic table, afraid to go back in tent. One of us merely had a bite on the hand, the other a bite on the leg that made it difficult to backpack the rest of the way up.

I know, not as bad as getting stuck in Central africa.

The way you wrote this made me laugh because it sounded like you and the scorpion each bit each other!

I have a Grand Canyon camping story involving a scorpion too. Mine isn’t as good as yours- I didn’t get bit. But I was cowboy camping (no tent) at Phantom Ranch and saw a scorpion. I also ended up sleeping on the picnic table!

It's actually really awesome. Just bring a tent and don't leave your shoes outside the tent. If you do leave your shoes outside the tent, before to check them before putting them on.

People- scorpions sting-- they don't "bite". Same thing with "bee bite" -- it's a bee sting.

That said I am terrified of scorpions and cannot imagine getting stung by one!
