I have one kid in college and a high schooler in MCPS. I've never felt the resentment and fatigue that some others experience against MCPS, despite dealing with IEPs, 504s and various issues for many years. So no, when a kid graduates, I mostly feel excited about their next steps, which are not more or less complex than their MCPS years - just different.

I'm waiting for my elder one to finish his last year with MCPS, and then we are moving to Howard county for my younger one to receive a not outstanding but pretty solid education. MCPS has been falling into craps over the years.

I loved MCPS and felt like my kids had so many more opportunities than my nieces and nephews who don't live in areas where school districts offer the number and diversity of options that MCPS does. MCPS was especially impressive during COVID when his non mainstream MCPS placement developed the most impressive IEP to get him through the year and a half of remote school.

MCPS needs to work on safety. But that isn't something unique to MCPS. Gun violence happens everywhere. There was just a shooting in a dorm at Towson a couple of weeks ago.

My entire family can't wait to be done with MCPS in a few weeks.

We moved here for the schools, and I didn't notice how bad it was getting until it was too late. We moved here when 2.0 started. I was willing to give it a chance, but what crap that was. I should've noticed then how terrible MCPS leadership is.

From the F*up curriculum, dumbing things down (50% credit, grade inflation, no finals), changes to magnet programs, now the regional programs, removing SROs while there is an increase in school shootings and other violence, no budget oversight (ebus debacle), shielding a friend from sexual misconduct allegations (I'm talking to you Monifa), stupidly fighting the right for parents to opt out of reading certain books and wasting money on defending the lawsuit...

Just so much crap. So done. Gonna move out of MoCo soon, too. I'm not a MAGA or R, btw. I want to move back to the other blue state that I came from.

MCPS was one of the last districts to go back during covid. The learning loss was never recovered for a large portion of those kids in MS/HS. They didn't know how to handle covid while other school districts figured out ways to get the kids back.

MCPs sucks.

But not every school district stupidly removed SROs who have developed relationships with the students.

Yes. Schools are far too large. Race to the bottom. Security and safety issues. Students transferred among schools--who knows who is in your kids' classes, staircases, restrooms. Glad to done.

I feel like there is a subset of people who cannot be happy until everyone else is unhappy. We’ve had a fine MCPS experience and have done it all. High FARMS schools, W schools, magnets, not magnets, accelerated classes, not accelerated classes, summer school, dual enrollment, clubs, sports, IEP, short term and long term 504 plans, etc. Is every moment perfect? No. But in the grand scheme of things our kids had more opportunities than they could ever possible take advantage of.
