VA SCOTUS oral arguments

Did anyone watch and get a sense for where they'd land?

Unfortunately, I had the wrong time and missed it.

Major Virginia Redistricting Case update:

The Virginia Supreme Court (#SCOVA) has DENIED the emergency request to stay the injunction of certification of last week's Gerrymandering referendum!

In the 'tea leaves' category, this is as positive a 'tea leaf' as one might imagine!

If #SCOVA thought they would let the referendum stand, then logically they would have lifted the injunction on counting & certifying the votes.

Caveat: this is still just tea leaves, but it's a good sign.

@Kalshi & @Polymarket are probably crashing on this at the moment

Have you seen the lawsuits from Trump and his allies? Do you think they actually care about the legitimacy of the law or its process? They use lawfare. Look at how many times they have tried to go after Comey (and still trying) even though they had no legal standing.

Cuccinelli might end up being right, but not because he's smart. The VA Supreme Court could have denied for any number of reasons unrelated to the merits, including that there's no irreparable harm from waiting a little while longer for the actual decision. That guy was the AG at one point? Yikes.

I listened to it. I thought the state's lawyer did a terrible job. But, I think only two judges asked questions. I really don't think the hearing will have much impact. They will vote how they vote.

This hearing was all about process and the number of days stuff when the referendum was voted on Is the election on voting day or when early voting starts was the big question.
