Experience with Timber Frame Homes?

We've been looking at second homes near ski areas as second property. We came across this today which isn't a ski area but the lake is intriguing. We don't know anything about this type of construction -- any experience with timber frame homes? Googling claims they are efficient but wondering about the maintenance.

No idea but I’d buy it for the view and lake alone!

What do you want, a masonry home?
Most structures throught history were framed with wood. Most low lying small structures today are framed with wood.

It is certainly a beautiful home, but I wish they would have chosen poured concrete in lieu of cinder block foundation. Is that black mold on the basement ceiling joists? They might have unaddressed moisture issues and that is why the basement is unfinished.

Does anyone know what could be be causing so much orange staining (iron build-up?) on the exterior foundation walls? I doubt they have a sprinkler system out there.

Timber frame is a specific style with heavy beams and intricate joinery. Different than traditional stick framing — this is cheaper, quicker.

It looks like it might match the dirt around the foundation so maybe some storm water management is needed
