GLP-1 experience??

Anonymous
I’m sure like many others my social feeds are full of GLP-1 over the counter ads. Colon Broom, hers, happy mammoth, and many others. Any experience with these? Do they help?

I watch what I eat, do some physical activity daily (cardio/weights/yoga) and am in a rut.

Wow. This is a brand new question. Never been discussed. As if you even looked.

OP, are you asking specifically if GLP-1s help with peri / menopause symptoms?

I have heard of women microdosing GLP-1s during perimenopause to avoid getting “menopause belly”. I have not personally tried a GLP-1 as I am a normal weight.

Unfortunately menopause belly has arrived. BMI is high, but not pre-diabetes.

Yes, they work.

Are you eating healthy but hungry all the time.

If so GLP will help with that,

Truthfully I haven’t really lost a lot of weight because I don’t overeat but I’m not hungry all the time and that alone is worth it.

I would say just go through your PCP. There’s no sense in using one of these companies unless your primary care doctor refuses to prescribe it for whatever reason.

I will add that I have been on it for about two years now, and I’m at my goal weight after losing about 70 pounds. It has not been a cakewalk. I have had bad side effects, and they never went away completely, and so I will likely have them the rest of my life. If I weren’t obese and needing to lose that much weight, I never would have stayed on the medication. YMMV.

If you only want to lose <25lbs, PCP isn't going to prescribe it.

I use Gobymeds. I'm sure others are very similar.

I love it, but you mention stomach. I am at a great weight right now, but my stomach was the absolute last place to lose weight from. Annoying! You can't really target just the stomach. I'm sure everyone's body is different though when they lose weight.

Idk about op's PCP but many are old school and not receptive which is why people often turn to online providers. Meanwhile my GYN (a very normal practice, not concierge or new agey) is very attuned to peri/menopause issues and actually does ask if you'd like to discuss GLP-1s during visit.

"Old school" what? Medicine is not static.

Oh I really appreciate this question because my feed is FULL of supplement suggestions (many of which you mentioned but now I’m also getting Primal Queen). OBVIOUSLY the marketing is meant to hook you but… I’ve been hooked.

My PCP won’t prescribe me GLP1s as I’m in the normal range for weight (but on the highest end with diet and exercise!), but I can’t shake these 15 pounds (predominantly in my stomach) and all of these ads look like they’ll all be the magic bullet (I know… I know…).

So I too am wondering what routes may have worked for people out there. I also have hypothyroidism which doesn’t help the weight situation - and it makes me hesitant to try to go to an online provider behind my PCP’s back.

Look into the cost before you set your heart on it. It's expensive. And for life.

You don't owe your PCP loyalty. You have an issue that is physical and bothers you and you think PCP will not want to address. There are other providers you could see in person.

It seems people have completely missed the question. OP is asking about over the counter meds that claim to be GLP-1 medications. There is no such thing as OTC GLP-1 medications or supplements. Anything claiming this is a fraud and it most definitely will not work like the actual GLP-1 meds prescribed by a doctor.
