Hello,
I wanted to get some feedback on Kilmer as a GT center. Thanks. |
Kilmer MS usually sends the 3rd most kids to TJ, behind Longfellow and Carson. Not sure what percentage of those kids that get into TJ are GT or regular or honors. |
Not that it tells you much about AAP at Kilmer, but that number is likely to decline. The number of Kilmer AAP students has gone down since many of the Vienna AAP students were reassigned to Luther Jackson MS. At the same time, the number of AAP students at some other schools. like Rocky Run, has been increasing. |

That is a pretty bold statement to make.
Looking at the assignment list, it doesn't look like Jackson is going to take much away from Kilmer. Kilmer will still be getting plenty of kids from Louise Archer and Haycock which are considered to be among the best GT centers...and it might even be beyond the elementary level advantage. It could be that the staff and coursework at Kilmer that helped prepare students for TJ. I am sure that Jackson's center program is just fine, but I think it's ridiculous to assume that thier only downfall in the past has been not having enough kids from Vienna. |
| Surely you know that they are a new AAP center, just created 2 or 3 years ago. They had no AAP kids before that, so their only "downfall" was that they didn't even exist. |
You either don't understand the point or you're just looking to pick a fight. Five years ago, there were more GT/AAP students at Kilmer than at Carson, Longfellow or Rocky Run. That's no longer the case today; as of this September, there were 493 AAP/Level 4 students at Carson, 453 at Longfellow, 440 at Rocky Run and 321 at Kilmer. There are also more AAP students at Lake Braddock than at Kilmer. The only point was that, with a significant number of Kilmer's AAP's students reassigned to Jackson, it's less likely that Kilmer will continue to send roughly the same number of students to TJ as Carson and Longfellow. There will be a smaller pool of TJ applicants to begin with. It doesn't poorly on either Kilmer or Jackson; it's just a fact. |
What data are you looking at that tells you that 5 years ago, Kilmer used to send more kids to TJ compared to Longfellow? |
|
I didn't say Kilmer used to send more students to TJ than Longfellow.
It appears that was the case one year a few years ago, but it's less likely to happen in the future with part of the area previously assigned to the Kilmer GT/AAP center reassigned to Jackson: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/06/24/AR2008062401864.html |
