Moby Dick

Anonymous
I've somehow not read Moby Dick in the first half of my life and I'm just reading it now.

I find myself cheering for the whale and the only human character I really like is Queequeg.

I do find the chapters on cetology interesting. But my favorite part so far (about 150 pages left to go) is the first 100 pages or so.

I read it a few years ago. I learned so much more about whales and whaling than I ever thought I’d know. What a hard life to live.

I tried and failed to read it several times, and then read it twice in grad school and fell in love with it. The beginning is my favorite part. I’d like to reread it, but it is so long.

I read it in HS and remember the chapter on white. You gotta skim…

I read it at about 45 years old and was glad I did.
There's a chapter that describes going into the whaleboat after a whale and how the rope is coiled and played out that is so well written.

Nooooo, you gotta take it really slow and savor each chapter like its own weird little mood. It's a terrible book to read for a class for that reason.

I'm due for a reread....
