St. Andrew's (DE) Admissions - Early Feedback?

Anonymous
If your DC was accepted to this school was there any early feedback or informal indications in the weeks prior to the formal March decision being sent?

And if so, were you the one to reach out or did the school?

Asking because we have a tight turnaround once SAS decisions land -- giving us just two days before the deadline to accept or lose our existing day-school offers. SAS is DC's first choice by far but has not done an overnight or shadow day and as a parent I would feel more comfortable if DC has a deeper look before deciding.

Any advice? If so, it's much appreciated.

My DC was admitted last year. There was a lot of suggestion that the application would be successful during the parent interview. Then crickets January to March.

Thank you. This is very helpful.

You’re welcome.

I hope your child gets their first choice. St. Andrew’s is a fantastic school

The timing sounds tight, but I doubt there will be regret.

You may have to suck it up and risk losing a deposit at the day school- lots of families who choose BS end up having to do this. You pay the school deposit, wait on the boarding school offer and revisit day then make your choice. So long as you pull out of the day school before the binding date (usually end of May/ early June) you only lose your deposit. You can also ask today school for some extra time but in our experience they aren’t likely to give that.

This. Resign yourself to losing deposit.
But you can always ask current day school for a week’s extension. Since you’re considering boarding school rather than say, magnet program or another day private, they may give it to you.

We did not have any indication before the acceptance letter/ decision day. I don’t think we really had a clue during the parent interview either. Maybe it was bc we were new to this boarding school process and didn’t know what we were looking for?

Two DCs attended all four years and loved SAS. It was an easy yes for us even before visit back day.

Good luck!
