Delay or no school Friday?

I’m calling a delay

I’m thinking a delay but then why would they open for just a few hours when they’ve been closed all week. I don’t understand why they didn’t shift to virtual.

After seeing a lot of unplowed streets across the area on the Montgomery County, MD Reddit thread, I'm not so sure anymore.

Because virtual is a waste of time. (I know - I have watched my husband teach virtually all week and it’s ridiculous how much nothing it is.)

I’m ready to cry. My kids actually like school and want to go back. I feel like they’re just going to cancel at this point for Friday.

Then your husband is a bad teacher.

The issue I’m hearing (and seeing in pictures from my principal) is that while school sidewalks are clear, many parking lots remain untouched. This means not only can staff not park but there is nowhere for buses to drop off or pick up.

I went out for groceries this evening and at least around Rockville Pike and neighboring roads, there are entire lanes that are either unplowed or drop suddenly.

I've taught virtual successfully in the past. It just requires a different set of skills. The bigger issue is that MCPS no longer has a process in place to have the devices taken home with the students, really. There are some with at-home chromebooks but that has dropped off dramatically. The other problem is MCPS has done nothing to reintroduce anyone, whether it's students or staff to zoom sessions.

I feel like the walking routes to school, and the safety of bus stops with snow in the lane between where children wait and they get on, might be equally issues.

And yet the county claims 90% of streets are plowed.

This - sidewalks are not clear (at least in the neighborhood where I am and in the vicinity where I walk - I was walking on the road). MCPS does not want to be sued if a kid slips and hits his head and dies.
