Currently zoned for Kilmer/Marshall.
Boundary changes would move us to Thoreau/Madison. 6th grader is taking Algebra I if that makes any difference. |
|
Also interested. Any latest info on Luther Jackson vs. Thoreau please?
DD1 went to Luther during Covid and it was almost all virtual, and the experience is fine. Now we are looking to make the decision for DD2. |

Algebra 2 is not even offered at Thoreau. Is it really that behind academically compared to most middle schools?
|
| Does anyone know how roughly how many kids go to LJ from Louise Archer? |
Algebra 2 is not offered at Kilmer either. Prealgebra/Algebra 1/Geometry (regular and Honors) are offered. |
Kilmer will arrange an Algebra 2 class if enough 8th graders qualify and have an interest. |
Would the other schools do the same ? |
| Last few years including this year, Kilmer had in person Algebra 2 class. As currently some of 6th grade are taking algebra 1, I assume that they will keep offer that. (More middle school will have algebra 2 class) |
I thought it was stated that the AAP centers will not change. Not sure what that means. Whether it will now be Jackson for the new Kilmer to Thoreau kids or will it now be Kilmer as the AAP center for those students. Smh. What a mess |
Doubtful at Thoreau. |
| If Algebra 2 is not offered at Thoreau, what do students who finish Geometry in 7th grade do in 8th grade? |
It's offered as a virtual asynchronous class currently. However, that will change as more kids are taking Algebra 1 in 6th. Alg 1 in 6th was really offered to a wider group of kids just this year. Before that the only kids in Alg 2 in middle were kids who took Geometry over the summer. So there just weren't enough of them. I wouldn't stress about it, because they most likely already have the teachers who are qualified for Alg 2, just not enough kids for a section. But that will change as more kids are offered Alg 1 in elementary. |
