| I recently heard the term glue player. What is it? |

AI is your friend.
A "glue player" in soccer (or any team sport) is a crucial, often underrated player who holds the team together by facilitating connections, controlling tempo, doing the "dirty work," and boosting others' performance without seeking the spotlight, essentially making everyone else better and creating team cohesion. They excel in intangibles like emotional intelligence, communication, and self-sacrifice, ensuring the team functions as a unit, like Jedi Robinson for the USMNT or the unsung players a coach highlights |

Oh hell. People get so offended by anything anymore. Maybe if there was a smiley emoji at the end of the AI comment? It seriously would have taken the OP less time to look up glue player in google than it did to type the question here. |
Piss off. It's the general attitude and you're doing nothing but contributing to it. Sorry your kid sucks and belittling others makes you feel better. Does that help? |
Piss off? Oh bollocks! Don't be a wanker. British insults are fun. Anyway. I didn't mean for anyone to get offended by the AI comment. Sorry one thought there was an attitude when it wasn't intended to be there. Merry Christmas! |
I agree with this reply. OP could have looked it up. It is an obscure, not often used reference. I am not sure how someone would create a thread with this topic in mind. But now, we are mud slinging replies whether it should have been better to search it up online or post the question here. Either is fine i suppose. I wouldn't denigrate someone who is trying to help, even it was served up with a backhand...some of us were thinking it after all. But every team has underrated players as long as the coach creates an atmosphere where players do not feel as valued as other players. It would suck to be a glue player, accomplishing all those vital tasks and yet feel underrated. If that were the case, then the fault would lay squarely on the coaches shoulders for creating that kind of perception of the players. Someone like that, should not be underrated, but highly regarded by the coach! |
It only sucks being a Glue player if you're focused on and need external superficial validation |
