Closed 12/19 and possibly into the week of 12/22 because of a massive pipe burst and flood.
This will do wonders for the mold problem. The best thing that could happen to that school is it burns down. How could MCPS let its facilities fail so badly? |
| The school is falling apart. Between the mold, sewer backups and then this, the entire building should be condemned. |
| Man, MCPS's negligence bill is coming due in a serious way. |
|
Nice. A few weeks ago it was Quince Orchards sewage pipe and now this
But they have a lot of money to spend on leasing a warehouse. SMH. |
| I’m jealous it wasn’t my school. |
They can use the new Crown High while things get fixed. |
Lol--a tree fell on my kid's MS after a storm earlier this year, and so many of the kids were so happy to have a few days off as they cleared the building damage. |

Sherwood needs to be completely torn down. The issues it has can not be corrected by simple renovations. Roaches, excessive mold built up over years due to the county failing to properly mitigate water leaks, the latest fire and failing sprinkler system is just the icing on the cake.
The Sherwood community may be smaller and less vocal than others but they need to start making some noise bigger than a petition that the county will never read. Their ongoing issues are having a long term impact on the health of the students and staff. |
| There are multiple schools in MCPS like this but Sherwood, Magruder are two of the worse right now. Its shameful MCPS spending on non-sense when these buildings need replaced. |
| I’ve read rumors about the school being closed into next week due to the repairs but the email said they working to open on Monday. I’ve only seen videos of the hallways looking like rivers, but does anybody have footage of the affected classrooms? |
No footage, but I have heard it is very, very bad. |
| News is saying sprinkler system … kids have told us that there was feces all over the floors. This school needs to be torn down and rebuilt . Use the Crown School that sits empty . |
Buddy the elf has it under control. |
It won't be finished until 2027. |
The most recent incidents are a horrible sewage backup/leak on Dec 8th. Another one on Dec.12th that seemed smaller than the first. Then this major sprinkler flooding on the 18th. There have been serious, ongoing mold issues before these incidents as well as continuous HVAC and plumbing issues, which often result in damaged classroom supplies, damaged ceiling tiles, closed bathrooms, and staff/student illnesses. I really hope MCPS makes sure everything that was damaged by the sprinkler system actually dries and gets inspected before they just cover it all back up so mold doesn't start growing inside what is getting replaced. I don't know how they can reasonably do this in 72 hours just to have school on Mon/Tues right before winter break. |
