Science Scheduling Help

My sophomore needs to plan out her science classes for Junior and Senior year. The complication is that she is in the arts magnet so she does not really have room senior year because her electives are locked into the art class.

Our school only offers IB science classes which are each two years. She is interested in taking AP Psych senior year but that would mean she would take IB Physics A junior year, and then AP Psych senior year. Or does she need to finish out the IB. She is thinking about going into the medical field.

Any suggestions for managing science? Maybe drop a fourth year of history once she is done with AP World?

If she's not in the IB diploma program, she can just take one year of IB Physics and that would meet the graduation requirement.

Thanks!

Sounds like your kid is at Einstein. What about dual enrollment for the science classes? Better than giving up 2 periods for IB.

Or take the lower level science and study for the AP test in your own.

Mine is dropping history senior year to fit in the second year of IB science.

She’ll have had 3 years of AP history and wants to major in engineering.

At Einstein, just regular science. It sucks there are no ap classes.

Einstein only has two engineering classes, bit taught at the same time. Teacher is good.

You can take the 1-year IB science classes.

Right, but for the VAC kids, they have to drop at least one of science, history or world language senior year. More than one if they don’t knock out Health or Tech in summer/middle school.

Will she have taken bio, chem, and physics before graduation?

That’s normal fora lot of kids. Many drop language junior year if they started in MS, and senior year no history. Tech can be done in MS depending on if the school has it. Health ed summer before 9th or 10th. Stem majors want ap physics which isn’t offered and upper level math. They should dump the physics with astronomy even though it’s a good class and replace it with ap physics.

If you plan senior year you only may need math and English.

Yeah, VAC. She took health A one summer and Health B the second (I can’t believe they added an extra health class). She still needs to take Tech and gym. She is going to drop the language senior year and may need to drop history to just fit things in. Her science teacher suggested dual enrollment but no idea how that works getting back and forth.
