Why is MCPS and the state of MD revamping math?

Trying to gather information as to the reasoning behind Geometry going away.
From Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2…
We are now moving to Integrated Algebra 1, Integrated Algebra 2.
In essence, a three year sequence goes to a two year sequence.
This will go into effect in two years.

What does that mean? Speed up the math?

My guess is to improve the state’s math scores to align with the Blueprint for Education goals.
