| Why is everyone talking as if Option H is final for Crown/Damascus Re-boundary ? I dont belong to Wootton and Gaithersburg community .. but seeing multiple threads about option H being final. Infact, I dont like Option H much since it changes my High school to Seneca Valley from Clarksburg HIGH. So can someone enlighten me about this buzz of option H being the final ? |
| The response is probably out of recognition that it either is most sensible or most likely to be selected by decision makers. |
Because it’s closing Wootton. |
|
because it's the only one that makes sense.
THere's no way MCPS is going to use Crown as a holding school while renovating Wootton. Option H, using Wootton as a holding school makes much better financial sense. |
Correction: Closing the current Wootton building and MOVING the high school to the Crown location. |
No, it's closing Wootton as it's been historically known for the past 55 years (almost 3 generations of graduates). In its place will be a mega high school that many parents believe will be unlikely to meet the same level of academic success. This is often what happens when you close schools and mix/match student populations. |
I mean, it wouldn't be the first time MCPS has done that. They closed Blair, converted into a SSIMS and SCES and moved Blair High School to its current site at Four Corners as a much larger school. |
Isn’t Blair complaining about being overcrowded and too big? Why are we repeating this mistake |
But Blair's boundary didn't change when it moved to Four Corners in 1998. And it actually got smaller several years later when Northwood reopened. |
| Why wouldn't they send the Wooton kids to Crown for a few years; tear down Wooton, and rebuild it? Then once the new building is ready, the kids would return. |
because they already spent all the money on this boundary study. |
Well that and allocating money for the six region model |
That makes no sense. Wooton HS is roughly 295,000 Sqft. Rough estimates to rebuild a HS from scratch are $350-400/sqft. Wooton is in a nice area so let's use the high side. That would be $118M. According to this article, the boundary study was about $1.3M https://bethesdamagazine.com/2024/12/05/school-board-approves-boundary-study-contract/ I'm obviously missing something. |
Because they don’t want to give Wootton nice things. You want to fix Wootton? Then you have to move. |
That would make too much sense, but MCPS already blew their money on lots of other stupid expenses (like multiple boundary studies) so there is no money to rebuild Wootton. |
