3 full years without a period and I feel HORRIBLE

Anonymous
I don’t really have an ask but I feel awful. I feel like I can’t regulate my temp and am either freezing or hot. I am exhausted all the time. I am achy and I have periods of lightheadedness and dizziness. My recent lab work was ok. I do have low ferritin but other anemia markers were ok. Thyroid was ok too. I just want to post here because I feel awful 6 days out of 7 and this can’t be normal.

Can you take HRT?

OP here. I totally forgot to say that my GYN doesn’t want to start me on anything other than vaginal estrogen until a breast concern is sorted out. I don’t think the breast issue is a big deal but she’s being cautious.

What’s your ferritin number?

Ferritin is 27

That is very low. You can have iron deficiency even if your hemoglobin numbers look normal. See a hematologist and ask about an iron infusion. Most insurances will approve one if your ferritin is 30 or below. Increase the iron-rich foods you eat. You can try iron supplements but they never worked for me.

Get your ferritin up while you get through your breast concern, then get on HRT. Nobody should be feeling badly 6 days of 7, so don’t take no for an answer.

If you haven't already looked at genes, Color is pretty easy all you need is a credit card. I did it after getting diagnosed and my surgeon and oncologist both appreciated the results wrt genes of interest wrt cancer.
I don't have them. Good to know.
It might affect your doctor's willingness to prescribe HRT.

That is low, you should get intravenous iron infusion. Oral iron usually doesn't work too well, it is very hard on digestive system and not well absorbed.

That’s your decision not hers. I can feel awful or fine in as little as 12 hours based on whether I’m taking my hrt. Do you not have obligation to family friends a job?!? How is this ok with you?

Take proferrin oral for your low iron. It is a heme iron and well absorbed.

A very low dose (microdose) can wipe away your hot flashes and make you feel somewhat normal again. Your doctor should monitor your breasts while providing you treatment.

That doesn't sound normal. You probably need to go and get some bloodwork done.

Can you get progesterone only? A low dose? Also, have you tried any supplements you can get OTC? I started taking a bit of creatine powder in my morning smoothie and I think it helps a lot with energy levels and overall physical fitness. There are formulas that are developed for menopause with extra supplements like taurine in it. There is no reason for you to feel terrible every single day, you have to insist on getting some supplements (like people already suggested iron deficiency may also be the case).
