| Who is this high school for? What type of students attend this school and from what middle schools are they coming? |
|
It's not a comprehensive high school, it's for specific career and technical education programs.

There are a wide variety of programs at the school - some are more career focused, some are more technical. Some students wish to go college, some right into the work force, some want the credentials for higher earning while attending college. Many of the programs are very hands on and are great for students to try out something they think they will love. Programs range from auto tech and cosmetology, to health tech and tourism to architecture and cyber security. Students attend Edison in the am or the pm and their local school the other part of the day. |

It's not a home school. The programs are part time and they are by application only. They are open to all HS kids in MCPS. Most programs start in 11th grade, but some start in 10th. It used to be pretty easy to get in, but some years ago, it became quite competitive. Kids lose their ability to take electives in their home schools due to the number of periods required for the programs at Edison. Kids are bused to and from their home school to participate unless they have their own vehicles or get rides with other kids. They have a good outplacement program with success getting kids into apprenticeships and securing scholarships for additional education.
They used to offer a lot of open houses. If you are interested, you should see if that is still available. |
Edison is not open to all MCPS students. It serves the southern part of the county while Seneca Valley serves the northern part of the county. |
Do they regulary update program offerings as the economy and demands change, e.g. information technology changes ? |
