last minute winter break planning

I and my husband have 12/24/2025 - 1/4/2026 off with 2 kids (10 and 7) at dmv. We don't have passport because they are all expired. I am worried about icy road or snow since it seems quite cold this week here in dmv. We hesitate about road trip. Where can we go like a few days to a week or so that are not too expensive at this last minute planning. We don't ski, and we don't want to do anything with national park.

Op here. We don't want to go anywhere north that are colder than dmv area. We just went to san diego & california past summer, and we plan to save florida disneyworld next few years.

I'll always say Atlanta if you don't want to drive.

If you are flexible either dates you may be able to get a cheap flight to Florida. You could try for Ft Myers or FLL. It may not be hot but should be warmer than DC. I recently booked cheap flights leaving the 20th and returning on the 24th. Week after Christmas is probably more expensive.

I like Hollywood Beach Florida, fly into ft. lauderdale or miami.

OP do you and your DH have your real IDs?

Puerto rico. But it's expensive over that time unless you fly spirit.

Anywhere you fly is going to be expensive, especially this late in the game. If you are willing to fly on Christmas Day or NYE you probably can still find a deal somewhere, maybe, but then you'll have an issue with hotels.

I'd probably just drive South and suck it up. Plan better for next year.

You may be able to grab a last minute cruise deal.

I second Atlanta. We did a long weekend there with my kids 2 years ago and had a blast. We did the aquarium and the zoo, made slime at Slomoo institute, world of coca-cola, etc.

There is also lots in FL that is not Disney. We had the best spring break last year at a fancy hotel with a water park in Orlando and didn't do any theme parks at all.

I was the Atlanta poster. There's also a children's museum, puppetry museum with Jim Henson stuff, MLK sites, Fernbank Museum of Natural History, Fernbank Science Center, SkyView Atlanta ferris wheel, Stone Mountain, Jimmy Carter Library, College Football Hall of Fame, botanic gardens, good restaurants. Whatever your interests are, there's more than enough to keep busy,

I would look at Miami, Marco Island, south Florida will be the best bets for warm weather. Charleston would be nice too.
