We have a large picture window at the front of our house that is S facing. There is a soffit directly above the window trim, and because of this, the curtain rod is hung from the “ceiling”/soffit, and there isn’t room for a double rod. In the winter, the sun is particularly intense, but I work from this room and enjoy the sunlight. Would it look authentically appropriate from the street, or even from inside, for me to add a sheer curtain on a tension rod, just in the middle of the window:
The rod would be placed between the sliders, with the curtains opened only that far, which is what we usually do anyway. |
| *aesthetically. Ugh. |
| I think it would look better if the sheer curtains spanned the width of the window, however you make that happen. |
| Whatever you want, OP. I assure you that no one really cares as much as you. It's true that the sheer curtains would look better across the entire window. |

Nobody cares from outside but it’s not going to look “correct” of course. But who cares?
If you want to stick with the curtains and this is a utilitarian quest, you could do an internally mounted roller shade. When it’s rolled up, you will barely notice it, especially if the color is close to the window trim. Or a Roman shade, with or without the curtains. I think a lot depends on the other windows in the room. |
| If that's your actual window in the image, well, they look like cheap windows so I wouldn't get too worked up about how you dress it. |
| i would get roman shades or rollar style that are automatic. they look great and are easy to use. |
