Property Tax Fraud: Can it affect MCPS funding?

I live close to a MoCo rental property that is claimed by the owner as a principal residence (according to SDAT). Is he just lazy or is this also a move that reduces his property tax contribution for public schools?

Yes this reduces their property tax payment. Less property taxes = less money for the County to allocate to schools.

So how much would a landlord save in property taxes by claiming a $500,000 rental property as their primary residence? Or is it a just negligible amount and simply a matter of less paperwork for the owner?

They save 10%. In a 550k townhouse in Takoma Park, that's a savings of around $750 annually.
