For those of you with kids attending upper midwest schools, how is the travel home going in this winter weather?
Anyone not making it back in time for their classes? There are a few parents posting in my kid's school parent page that their kids had flights cancelled or rerouted yesterday, and weren't able to rebook until Tuesday. |
| Cancellations. Delays. And those who returned after starting to travel realizing they won't make it to their destination. And if traveling from DC area, there is a possibility of snow in certain areas on Tues morning, so possibly more delays or cancellations from this end. |
| Hardly unexpected for people attending college in places where it regularly snows. |
In places where it reqularly snows, they are usually fairly good at clearing snow and runways. This one being the first snow really mucked up travel. |
| Mine went back on Friday bc of The Game. I have seen a lots of parents talking about delays. We try to only book direct, but if you have to connect, avoid Chicago. That’s the advice from experienced parents. |
| Mine got back today, no issues. |
And all experienced travelers…if connecting go via southern routes in winter months! We’re driving back to DC from Chicagoland today. Other than a wreck right after we started out (not us, a semi), and heavy traffic, the southern route has been cold and dry. |
| Kid took a direct flight out at 7:30am- no problem getting to Colorado. I think going through Chicago was the rough patch for others. |
| My kid's flight from BWI to Houston was delayed by 8 hours today. My bad for booking on Frontier! |
Oh goodness, this was my DD’s flight home last week. 8 hours was miserable! She’s going back tomorrow and I’m praying for a better trip- also connecting through Houston. |
Good luck to your DD! |
| Thanksgiving breaks are so short (some schools holding classes up to Wednesday), we’ve already talked about us going to kid for Thanksgiving break and then kid coming home for winter break. If my flight home is delayed from TG it’s fine, I work on a hybrid schedule. We’ll see what happens but of course every school they applied to are in much colder states/actual winter weather than ours (CA). |
