What happens if you don’t go into the office some weeks due to illness or some other life issue?
How much trouble are you in? |
| Zero at my company. But I never do it as consecutive weeks. |
|
I had a concussion a few years ago, had a doctors note, and wasn’t in trouble at all. I mean I felt bad for my colleagues that they had to scramble, but I’ve scrambled to help them before.
I have a friend / colleague who missed weeks for a surgery and recovery. I can’t imagine getting in trouble for things like this. |

Don't you ever take vacations? A vacation is a week-plus not in the office. It's normal.
I'm in 5 days a week now, but when I used to be in 1 or 2 days, workplaces varied on whether you had to make up a missed in-office day. So if Tuesday was my day and I had an appointment, one job made me come in Wednesday and another job didn't. But if I missed the whole week due to vacation or illness, I didn't have to make anything up. |

Every organization is different but at ours we are GRATEFUL when you keep your germs at home. If you're sick...stay home. Please.
In-office requirements are for collaboration, productivity, networking, culture. Requiring sick or injured people to come in is not aligned to the spirit of the in-office time. This said.....there are people who abuse it, for sure, and stay home for something like a hangnail. Don't be that person and you should be fine. |

It depends. Did you say that you came in or did you take leave? This is a weird question.
If you lied about working, yeah, you’re going to get fired—assuming your organization has a PTO policy. |
