Magnet program acceptance and moving schools

If my kid gets accepted to a magnet program and rejects the spot in 9th grade, but later we move to another school zone for 10th grade are we allowed to apply again or can kid get placed in the magnet program in that school?

No, you only get one shot.
You cannot apply in 10th grade.

There are currently no on ramps beyond the 8th grade application. There will be when the new regional model starts.

You can't take the core 9th grade courses after 9th grade. But various programs have various electives that are open to students who satisfy prereqs via their non magnet classes. Every program is different.

Let's say my kid got in to Seneca Valley IB in 9th grade and goes to it. We move to Rockville to Richard Montgomery zone for 10th grade - can my kid go to the IB program in RM?

Not under the current program for 8th graders applying this year. No.

Or with new regional magnets - let's say my kid got into some magnet program in region 6 for 9th grade and goes to it and we find the cohorts not good enough. If we move to Region 4 for 10th grade, would my kid still be able to go to the Region 4 magnet program wherever it is placed?

The kid would have to give up the magnet program if we move? What about Cosa?

No, you take it for 9th or lose it.

This....maaaaybe. My kid was in a magnet at one point and we discussed moving with the admins. They said it would be likely we could switch to the magnet on the other side of the county. In our case it was switching to the less-dense one and it was several years ago (more selective process, pandemic-ish times). You'd have to talk to admins on both sides and have someone to advocate for you.

My question was after you take it for 9th and move, do you get placed in the new school's magnet?

Was your child accepted in the new school's magnet?

If you are talking about things that won't happen until 1-2 years after, probably no one can give you a guarantee answers. There have been ongoing uncertainties and probably school principal may not know the final answers.

+1. They've been talking about adding on-ramps in later years, but no specifics have been shared yet.

If your question is that you got an IB magnet slot, and then move to another school that happens to have an IB magnet, will you automatically get placed there, who knows---I assume it would depend if they have space available. You seem to be asking upthread if admittance to one IB program guarantees you admittance in a different school's IB program...I'm not sure about that.

This is a "talk to the school directly." scenario.
