Hi parents and community members!
I'm a staff member at a local charter school and I've been asked to conduct a mock interview for one of our current 8th grade students who is applying to Sidwell. Do you have any advice about what questions to ask and/or how best to prepare this student for an interview? Thanks in advance for your help! |
| Sidwell doesn’t have interviews |
huh? |
They don’t interview. They have assessments (written), and for high school, there is a group activity. But no interviews. |
|
In case you need to interview prep this kid for any schools it's always a similar batch of questions that are asked: favorite subject, strengths and weaknesses, favorite book, last book read, what do you do in free time, why this school, how will you add to the community, etc.
you can google for more. |
| And important to teach the kid not to answer with one words answers but to be ready to say why XX is their favorite subject |
| I think there is an interview as part of the assessment day - I didnt get much feedback from my kid last year but that’s what I understood! |
| I would guess why do you want to go to Sidwell and what would you contribute to the school might be good ones to prepare for if there's a school interview. |
My kid also got things like, how would your friends describe you? |
At least this year there is not |
| Thanks for all the input and sample questions! I will make sure they understand that there may not be a formal "interview," but instead a group activity. Thanks again! |
| The best advice for them is to just be themselves and not give some canned robot answer than a consultant has prepped them with. |
You better confirm that with the school and not rely on what anon on the internet says. |
