Driver Who Killed Mother and Daughters Sentenced to 3 to 9 Years (NYT gift link)

From this morning's New York Times.
Miriam Yarimi, a wig maker with a big social media presence, ran a red light in Brooklyn before slamming into the family members. The deaths spurred calls for increased traffic safety.

According to NYCServ, the city’s database for unpaid tickets, Ms. Yarimi’s Audi had $1,345 in unpaid fines at the time of the crash. On another website that tracks traffic violations using city data, the car received 107 parking and camera violations between June 2023 and the end of March 2025. Those violations, which included running red lights and speeding through school zones, amounted to more than $12,000 in fines.

Outrageous. My heart breaks for the family of the victims.

I was in a vehicular accident when a speeding truck blasted through a four-way intersection.

You can't count on others. Not law enforcement. Not city hall that enforces laws only when it suits them. Not the irresponsible drivers who jeopardize everyone else.

Pay attention to your surroundings. Be extremely careful entering intersections.

If I can save one person from injury and worse by reminding them how fast an accident can happen, then this posting was worth posting.

They always use the death of those they caused, to futher their crusade for more laws and less freedom. "Oh scary scary freedom!"

-personably owed more than $1,000 in fines for her lawless driving
-had 107 different unpaid camera fines on her car for speeding and running red lights
-was illegally driving though her license was already suspended
-was driving 68 mph in a 25 mph zone where there were pedestrians
-had just run a red light immediately before the accident
-slammed into another car, injuring 2 adults and 3 children

and THEN careened she into this mother and her 3 children in the crosswalk, killing all but one child, who suffered from skull fractures, brain bleeds, and had to have a kidney removed.

3 to 9 years isn’t nearly enough for someone so consistently, remorselessly reckless, who has shown zero regard for the law or the lives of others.

Must have had a connected slick lawyer to pay off a judge for her.

I hope the civil case wipes her out and she is never allowed to drive a motor vehicle ever again.
