Fertility monitors

I'm looking at buying a secondhand Clear Plan Easy Fertility Monitor. Are these the same as the Clear Blue monitors? The packaging is so similar I'm wondering if it's the same and they changed the name or what.

Probably the same thing. I bought one of the monitors and found that I could get the same results just using the Clear Blue Easy Ovulation Predictor Kits. In fact I seemed to get better results with those OPK's than the monitor.

It's the same product -- just a different name.

For what it's worth, we got pregnant the second month using this monitor

We got pregnant twice using the monitor. I think it was on the 3rd month the first time (I was nursing and my cycles were insane) and on the first try the second time. The huge advantage over the sticks is that you get a lot more lead time. The sticks give you a positive one day. The monitor typically gives you 5 days lead time.

The only caveat with buying used is that it saves the data of the previous user. Probably not a big deal, but (extreme example) if the previous user typically ovulated on day 21, and you ovulate on day 10, the machine won't start asking for sticks until day 11, and you will have passed your ovulation. On the next cycle it will start asking earlier. There's a way to clear the machine (call the company). But it's complicated and they advise you it may not reset properly. I loaned mine to a relative between pregnancies and she got pregnant on the first try, without clearing the machine. We decided it wasn't worth it to try to clear it.

Good luck!

The problem with the monitor is that its supposed to show you your High Fertility days and then your Peak Fertility days. I think i had 6 high fertility days before hitting the peak days. I could tell the same information just using OPK's sticks. The second time I used it I got 5 High days and then finally the peak days. I was led to believe that it would eventually shorten the # of high days. Oh well, I'll use it after #2 comes and see if I can get it into a pattern...if I know I have 5 days before peak then that would be great, but i kept expecting it to shorten the # of high days as it honed in on my cycle.

It sounds like you only used it for 2 months? It may not have had time to shorten. I had more high days the first two months, but by the third month only had 2 or 3 high days, and then a peak. You can't get that information from the sticks. It only gives you the peak days. Knowing the high days was important for me for a couple or reasons, but it may not matter to others. But I know what you mean, I would be exhausted after 6 high days before a peak.
