Why are you so confident YOUR job will be the exception?

Why are you so confident YOUR job will be the exception? What's so specific about your job that AI cannot do? If you are in this privileged position congrats. I cannot say the same about my job. I am a Statistician and have been using more and more AI at my job. I am not a psychic and I cannot read into the future. However, I'll just say I'm blown away by the capabilities of the AI tools I am usingm. As a result, I am not going to be among the privileged ones who are so certain and confident that their jobs will be the exception.

AI can’t do anything correctly. If you’re using AI at your job, it means you suck at your job.

My friend is a software developer. Every single new piece of code must be AI generated at his company. They are no longer allowed to write code themselves. And if they claim AI can't write the code, they need to write full report explaining why.

It's like zombies. I'm not outrunning AI, I'm outrunning other people. So far, very doable, although I put in many hours to change my career and stay ahead of where I need to be. I think I have a few more years. Then we'll see.

I will be concerned when AI research is automated. Let that sink in for a minute. Yes the ultimate goal is for AI research to be automated..when that happens, then governments have huge problems on their hands because it then means we will have intelligent systems much smarter than us.

I’m not concerned because I only have about 10 more years of working, if that. I am a lawyer in a very arcane area and I don’t think AI will be able to do my job very soon. Plus, we can’t even access AI engines from our work computers, so I don’t think they’re learning much from our process.

AI isn’t even making my job easier yet, how can it replace me?

I believe my occupation is safe for several years, but not forever. The AI brain managing robot arms isn’t close yet.

I am a surgical nurse in the OR.

The robots we use now very much need human oversight now in order to intervene.

Good question. My company is racing and looking at every single process that can be automated. Their goal is not to push for AI specifically but to cut as many people as possible while still producing the same or higher level of output. So AI is a tool for them to make it happen.

This is a strange comment. Our developers need to use AI to become more efficient, but that means the AI will finish their lines of code but they correct it in real time.

AI always screws up if you let it just write thousands of lines and then you spend more time debugging than just writing yourself.

I'm a waiter. I'm confident I will retire before the robots come. You can have my job as I'm ready to retire. Oh, and I invested in AI and crypto to be able to retire.
My kid is 18 and started as a food-runner while going to college. Retiring him by 30. He can continue to work if he wants to.

Probably 50/50 here. The only thing saving me right now is my job requires a lot of judgement, and looking at the full picture, not black and white type stuff. I don't think AI is that great with gray area type stuff right now. Maybe in the future, but until then, I chug on.

Lawyer here. It can totally do my job. Not yet, but soon.

Because nobody wants to be a teacher.
