Would you submit this ACT score?

Anonymous
DS (senior) took the ACT for the last time in October and scores just came back with 35 in reading and writing and 23 in math (again) giving him a 31. He is a very creative type, applying as humanities major, math grades are consistently lower etc. Would you submit this score to an ED school (already applied as test optional) where the average range was 32-34 and fewer than half submit scores? Grades are unweighted from a private school and slightly below average for admitted students.

What about a school where it is technically in range? or does the 23 just ruin it?

The 23 would raise eyebrows everywhere and make you discount the entire transcript.

Your child applied test optional. While this is an improved score for your child, it is more likely to hurt vs help them if you report it. Stick to test optional.

What is his math rigor like? Calculus? Grades in math?

He is in regular level calc and gets Bs

What type of school is this? Top30 university? SLAC?
I think that matters.

I would NOT submit to a top30 university. Might submit to a SLAC.

Not a SLAC. More like a Miami/Tulane/Villanova

It wouldn't submit that to any of those 3 schools (though Miami is test required)
Why? Bc they will doubt the rigor/grades from your HS if the worst grade is a B in math.
That math score is not a B student.

Don't put red flags on the application.

DP. For the people saying no, why wouldn’t you submit this when the verbal score is so high and the student isn’t applying to any kind of math/stem related major? He’s obviously a creative type. I would think the verbal score would be compelling for meh grades.

No. I would not submit. The math score will not help him
