| My son loved GU. But $$$ is a factor. I just can't see how the school is worth $96K/yr. Can you give me some alternatives to consider? He's interested in biochemistry so a good arts and science school. He liked the small campus size and access to town. He also likes that it's relatively close to home. |
| What state are you for in? |
|
I think most private schools will probably cost around that much. Unless you get merit or fin aid. But GU is supposed to match your needs if you qualify.
Most public will probably be bigger. |
Maryland |
|
Loyola Maryland might check a bunch of the elements - they will give a bunch of aid if your child is in the mix for GU
|
|
William and Mary Out of State will be less expensive than GT and there are cross over of applicants with my kids friends groups.
|
| Maybe William and Mary. Similar size - decent bio department. Even OOS it is cheaper than Georgetown. Not really in a city though. If you want that, you are mostly looking at private and similar $$. |
| I was also going to recommend W&M |
|
The Jesuit schools (St. Joe's, SLU, Marquette).
I know a kid accepted to GU who wound up at St. Louis University. The student was planning on going to med school and SLU offered so much aid. I know that SLU is not near Maryland - but it is in a city with a relatively compact campus. (same as St. Joes and Marquette) |
American University Honors College? They give great merit for strong students. |
This is a great recommendation. |
| University of Maryland. |
| University of Richmond is beautiful. |
It's just as expensive as Georgetown and not nearly as good. |
|
The problem you have is Georgetown is a much better ranked school than the alternatives. It will be up to you if the difference in cost is worth it.
Pitt is an urban school. Much bigger but if you have Georgetown stats you will likely get merit aid. A lot of the options suggested are great with merit if you have Georgetown level stats. |
