| Curious as to the changes people might have made since 2020, did you purge your whole house? Did you stock up more and continue to stay stocked up on food/house hold goods or did you become more of a hoarder because everything felt out of control, things were hard to get for a while. Now you like having everything you need "just in case." What's your current situation like? Have you made any changes since 2020? |
| No, I didn’t and I don’t. |
| I guess I make a point of keeping extra TP on hand. We live in an apartment, so there's not extra storage for buying things in bulk. |
|
I have made a point to purge but that is probably more about our stage in life (moving and kids headed off to college).
The shortages definitely set me back for a bit on that process, but I have reminded myself we can't predict what is going to have a shortage and (at least I) can't keep backups of everything. |
| Stock up. Plus with prices going up it makes more sense to buy more when it's on sale. |
|
Our habits have definitely changed. It first started with the shortages from the COVID, and now worries about the price hikes from tariff wars. We tend to stocking up on non-durable goods that are consumed quickly, like soaps, medicine cabinet stuff, paper products. Almost guaranteed that it will be used up. But by nature, we are not hoarders. We still purge by donating clothes or chucking out old stuff we don't use.
|
| I find myself stocking up on things like cat and dog food, tp, toothpaste, a huge bag of laundry detergent, large dishwashing liquid...It just makes a lot more sense economically and logistically so it's not about scarcity, just practical. For things like clothes, housewares, I try to focus on "what will be very useful often and for a long time?" to not mindlessly buy so I then don't need to purge. |
| No mormon yet on this thread? They will tell you to always be prepared stock up for 3 months |
|
Finally able to offload all the cans Lysol we stock piled during that time. |
|
I'm not Mormon...but we do have enough food to last 3months. We buy when things are on sale and pay attention to the cyclical nature of sales in order to stock up correctly. For example, pasta was on sale a few weeks ago. We bought enough for 4 months because it typically goes on this sale every quarter. In Sept baking supplies went on sale. They won't be at that good price again until after Christmas so I bought what we would need for the holidays.
As far as purging: we donate clothes/toys/books every other month. Everything has a place to put it in our house so we try hard to only keep what we use and enjoy. |
| We learned to do more with less during Covid, so I’d say the permanent change is that there are far fewer things we stock up on now. |
Where did you off load it to? How many cans did you have? |
I'm hoarding. A bit ashamed to admit it though. |
How much space does that take? Where do you store it all in the basement a pantry or garage? Perishables too do you have a separate large freezer or just canned foods and pasta? |
I appreciate your honesty. You're not alone though. How much do you have? How much space does it use? |
