I'm late-50's female whose main physical exercise is daily 30-45 minute walks. In colder weather, obviously the walks start out "cold" but I warm-up and end up quite warm (except maybe hands and ears).
How does one dress for this level of activity in colder weather so that one doesn't have to peel-off layers and carry them for the bulk of the walk? I often just grin and bear the beginning; but when it's really really cold, how do people manage the drastic body-temp swing? |
| experiment! I walk all year round. I find that if I wear a hat, have socks that keep my feet warm and mittens, I Can be pretty comfortable. depends on the day and how strenuous the walk. |
| Layers: wool base layer (woolx l/s tshirt), l/s wick away shirt, fleece that unzips, with a short zip up puffer on top. Zip and unzip as needed. I wear wool socks, base layer of woolx pants (they run snall), and then training pants. Definitely a hat to keep your head and ears covered, and mittens or gloves, whatever you prefer |
| The temp change isn't that drastic in a 45 minute period unless you walk at noon. For me, I untie a scarf and take off my gloves if I am hot. |
| Wear appropriate layers but double down on the hats and gloves; those can be removed easily. You can remove the accessories and unzip as you walk. |
This. Layers are not necessarily so that you remove them as you walk, but they make it warmer with lighter materials. At the coldest here in DMV - if no strong wind or wind chill, I’d wear a cami, a long sleeve shirt prefer one with a turtleneck (if it’s particularly cold, I’d wear between them a t-shirt or a thin wool or fleece on top), and either a fleece or if it’s colder a light jacket like this one, and hat or ear covers and gloves. https://www.32degrees.com/products/womens-ultra-light-packable-down-jacket?variant=41787567046745&country=US¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=F25+Pmax+-+Full+Asset&utm_content=shopify_US_6663772471385_41787567046745&tw_source=google&tw_adid=&tw_campaign=22974956802&tw_kwdid=&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22985322718&gbraid=0AAAAADQtIKmMPvXk7iXE7DCP_fShEi9Is&gclid=CjwKCAiAz_DIBhBJEiwAVH2XwLrisOXIzV2PeyyxS7kaSXPnWY2EVFGHFAw2KHjav213iyM8r3qnXhoCVpcQAvD_BwE |
