Or am I just out of touch?
We will be traveling for a wedding soon and received the official invite over the weekend. I just pulled up the The Knot site where we are supposed to RSVP, and I’m sort of shocked to see that the reception ends at 10pm. Is that sort of early, or is this normal these days? I can only assume it’s a cost-cutting measure, to save on open bar expenses, maybe? |
| What time is the wedding? No, 10:00 pm does not seem early. |
|
Why do you care? Maybe the venue closes. Maybe they aren’t late night people.
You can always go out after the reception if that isn’t enough of someone else’s wedding reception for you. |
| No it is not shocking that a reception would be over at 10 PM. |
| No. Seems pretty average. |
| Last wedding I went to was like this, and 10 meant 10. No lingering was allowed! |
| That is normal. What time do you expect it to end? |
| It’s normal for some kinds of venues. Noise regulations and staffing. Go to a bar afterward if you want to extend the party. |
| Why would you assume that? A lot of weddings end at 9 or 10. |
| Normal, especially if it starts at 5 PM. |
|
A lot of venues do have a set closing time. I remember when I planned my wedding almost everywhere closed at 10 or 11pm. We were looking in pricey areas too, Sonoma and Napa valley in California.
Unless you’re doing a backyard wedding you’re going to run into venues having a set closing time. |
| No, that seems late. What happened to wedding breakfasts and luncheons? |
|
That seems normal for the official party to end. Some places are set up for informal after-parties. Sometimes people gather on their own afterward. Sometimes things just end at 10pm.
My own wedding reception (25 years ago) ended at 10pm, and that was the norm then for our area / type of venue, so this definitely isn't anything new. |
| I remember having to pay extra to extend it to 11pm. 10pm was standard. |
|
It's about the venue, and what they're allowed legally and have negotiated with the neighbors.
I can't see why that wouldn't be late enough, but I'm middle aged, white and was born here. That's how we roll. Don't be late. |
