No one in the family likes traditional Thanksgiving food. I thought about ordering out Indian. And I also thought about just making a meal of ridiculous appetizers.
Any ideas? Suggestions? |
| Appetizers sounds so fun! I’d love to eat that instead of thanksgiving food. |
| We have had Indian, waffles, steaks, beef bourgion |
| We don't celebrate Thanksgiving. We just get dim sum, Chinese, or cook a regular meal. |
| Go for another theme, like Indian that you mentioned or Italian or Mexican or whatever the majority might prefer. It's a nice change of pace from having traditional Thanksgiving and then basically the same menu at Christmas. |
| We make traditional Thanksgiving dinner but always pick either Christmas Eve or Day to just do apps from afternoon into evening. It's a lot of fun and we have no theme- everyone just gets to pick a few favorites for the "menu." |

I like the challenge of making traditional-esque Thanksgiving items, but making them more delicious and globally inspired. We're vegetarian now, but when we ate meat, we tried making Vietnamese-flavored turkey meatballs with a rice-based stuffing kind of dish and spicy greens and sweet potatoes sautee that was delicious. We incorporated the cranberry into dessert.
It's sort of like Iron Chef. Pick a dish for each of the traditional ingredients, but spice it up. With older kids, they each do a couple dishes in a competition to come up with the best recipe. It ends up being pretty collaborative. |
