I’m 57 and I’ve been on estradiol patch .05 mg and progesterone 100 mg for a few months now. It’s helped tremendously with hot flashes and brain fog but did nothing for my total lack of libido. Plan to visit my ob gyn this week and ask about adding topical estrogen and testosterone. I’m hearing from acquaintances that it’s very difficult to get the testosterone. Have others found that to be the case in Nova? Any tips for success? I know it’s off label to prescribe it for women but so eager to feel like myself again!

| I’m in NC, and it was my doctor who brought it up to me when I reported my low libido symptoms. She called the prescription into CVS, and then they responded saying my insurance rejected it, so then I had to call and tell them I was self pay and wanted to use a goodRX coupon. It was around $100 for a few months’ worth, with the coupon, which CVS applied automatically. I got a box of little tubes, and each little tube is supposed to last 10 days (by applying 5 pea sized dots on my upper thigh). |

It has worked better than I expected it to for libido (I thought it might take more time based on what I read online). Aside from that, I haven’t experienced any negative (or positive) side effects so far. It’s been about a month since I started. I don’t know when hair loss would be expected to happen. I go back to the doctor this month to check my T levels since they have to monitor them. |
Pfffft! Have been using 1% testosterone cream for about a year. It comes in a clickable dispenser—2 clicks per night. Zero hair loss. If you are having it, you may want to get looked at (your thyroid in particular). $60 for three months’ supply. It was not hard to get. |

| Ok, I’m encouraged. Maybe the doctor will listen to my concerns. Fingers crossed! Funny how if all these symptoms were happening to men, I’m sure pharma and the medical community would have had it all figured out 100 years ago. Plus, it would all be FDA approved! |
If a doctor doesn’t listen to your concerns, then find a new doctor (one who specializes in peri and menopause). If you can’t find a local doctor who does this, then look for an online provider. It’s off label for women, so insurance won’t cover it anyway. So if you go through an online provider, that’s one less hoop to jump through. |
| I have a compounded cream with estrodial, testosterone and DHEA. No hair loss here! |
