School bus question

Are there school buses from Fox Mill elementary area to Oak Hill elementary school for AAP level 4 students who live in areas close to Fox Mill but are qualified for level 4 AAP?

Fox Mill is assigned to Oak Hill as it's center, so yes, there will be bus service. Chances are the ride will be much longer, though - at least in one direction. We're only 5 min from the Center, but my student's ride home would still be 50 min long because of the route.

Is that the same for all schools in FCPS?

There are at least three stops that I know of, I won’t say where because I know the bus stops are not public for safety reason. I drive by them on the way to work. I am sure that there are more then the three that I know of. There is bus transportation to the Center school for all ES.

My kid is in level 4 AAP at the AAP center school. Some of the kids in his class were at other elementary schools and moved to our area. I wonder why.

dear parents, stay the f out of this! your kids will tell you if the bus ride works or if they need a car drop-off. Listen to them and keep it simple!

Parents who are learning about the program might not be aware if there are busses. Also, Fox Mill is a language immersion school. Kids from outside the fox Mill boundaries have to be driven to school by their parents, there is no transportation. If you are just learning about AAP and are at a school like Fox Mill, you might think that you need to drive your kid to the Center and not be sure if the County provides transportation.

OP, anther thought, if your child is out of boundary for Fox Mill and you choose the AAP Center, it will be based off of your base ES, not Fox Mill. Your Center school might not be Oak Hill. The County will provide transportation but it will be to your base ES Center.

Maybe the families wanted to be closer to their kids friends or wanted their kid to go to the same MS and HS as the friends the kid made in ES?

This is OP. The question was for a friend whose kid is grade 3 level 4 AAP and who is currently house hunting. They currently live in a zone where their regular ES is also their AAP ES center. They were considering a house where ES is Fox Mill but they would want to send their kid to an AAP center school which is Oak Hill for that area. She discussed pros and cons with me and I mentioned to her that school bus may not be an option for going to Oak Hill (based on the observation that kids at my DS' ES (AAP center) who moved in from other areas). Then I doubted myself and posted the question.
Thanks for the replies. I will let her know about school bus still being an option but will also recommend her to check with the school just to be sure.

No offense, but why do that? Just buy at the ES she wants to attend. It will be easier to maintain friends with kids from school if they are at their base school. We are a Fox Mill family, it is far harder for the kids who are friends with non-base school JI kids because they are further away and it takes more to get together and hang out.

One of the cons I hear from parents whose kids move to Oak Hill from Fox Mill is that the social scene is harder for the kids because they are not in the same neighborhood. Some parents are more willing to make the effort to get their kid involved with their Oak Hill friends but many are not excited about the extra time it takes. If they join the activities that are at Oak Hill, they have less time to hang out with friends in the neighborhood. We know people who have been fine with that and others who returned their kids to Fox Mill because they found it to isolating.
