Dog question

We visited my SIL this weekend, stayed overnight, she’s a wonderful host, but she lets her dog lick the plates when we’re done eating. Then she put the leftover lasagna pan on the floor and he ate that too.
Is this normal?
The cat eats on the kitchen table but she wiped it down before we sat down.
The kitchen chairs are destroyed by the cat scratching them.

Just… why?

Well, the chairs are just chairs. You aren't going to pass them down to your children.

Have you visited the pets forum?

Ugh.

Yes, why?

Can you imagine how it is for people with cat and dog allergies?

Because people have pet allergies, we should ban pets?

It’s not about allergies. Someone’s dog is licking plates and leftover supper out of the pan. I’m wondering if other pet owners do this?

Do the dishes go through the dishwasher afterwards? Then I'm not sure why it's an issue. We don't have a dog but my parents allowed the family dog to eat the drippings out of roasting pans or lick plates clean 40 years ago, it's hardly a new thing.

Yes, I let my dog lick plates. We call it the "pre rinse" before they go in the dishwasher.

Ha! You remind me of a dog we had a long time ago who would lick dirty plates IN the dishwasher if I had it open and was doing other things! She was a sweet girl.

Then the dishes went through sanitation. No problem as I see it.

I have one of those. As a puppy I once shut him in the dishwasher because he was so little and i didn't realize he had climbed in there. Luckily I realized it immediately when he barked!

Of course! Benefit of having a dog! No need to wash plates before they go in the dishwasher.

We let our dogs lick the plates clean before we put them in the dishwasher because they stubbornly refuse to learn to use silverware.

As for people with dog allergies - we don’t know any. And if we did, we wouldn’t invite them over anyway. Easier on them, easier on us.

Dogs just want to be helpful.
