I got UTIs in my 20s but then not anymore. Now in my late 40s, if it's relevant had my last period was December of last year and night sweats are over, mood has stabilized, etc.
DH and I have not been intimate often and October was the second time this year. And then I got a UTI. Is this something I need to worry about now? |

Yes. Your tissues are nore fragile your urethra more loose. You can try washing before and after sex, everyone showers before, showering after defecation...but vaginal estrogen (or rubbing it around with a finger if that's what gyn says) is the most help.

| This happened to me. Had a couple in my 20s and then three in one year at 45. started on vaginal estrogen. Haven’t had a UTI in 3 years now. I think using lube with sex also helps as it prevents microscopic tears where bacteria can be introduced. |
It also helps to drink a large glass of water right before intimate and make a point of urinating immediately afterwards. Cranberry juice can also help ward off utis |
| The only thing that will be effective is taking a low dose prophylactic antibiotic when you have sex. Otherwise, you can look forward to a UTI every time. It’s not that you aren’t clean, it’s likely from e.coli from eating/preparing poultry. |
No, no, and no |
| The e coli would be in someone's feces. Clean means washed off everyone before fiddling about. |
This is what was advised for me to do by a urologist recently. I am very hesitant to do this but after having two UTIs back to back, I will probably try it for awhile. |
Not sure.... if serious.... or euphamism...... |
I mean ... if you mean now-that-we-are-having-more-sex by "now" then I can tell you it isn't called the honeymoon disease for nothing. |
What? No. |
| Try d. Mannose. Was recommended to me by my not very crunchy GYN and seems to do the job. |
| AZO Boric Acid Vaginal Suppositories were recommended by my Gyno. No more UTIs. |
Sorry, yes. |
