What’s a good way to enjoy post work evenings?

Anonymous
I find I’m so exhausted and drained after work, I make dinner and watch tv, sometimes I go to the gym, then I go to bed.

What else do other people do?

I make dinner, help kids with homework, prep for the next day, and then grade papers.

I read, knit, watch tv . . .

Read, go for a walk, have a glass of wine on the roof/porch/etc., organize something in my house, bake

This very much depends on where you are in life. I have 3 DC and I am running them to activities most evenings.

If I can get myself out of the house to meet up with friends or do so kind of activity I always enjoy it, but I its hard to energize for that more than once a week or so.

Otherwise pretty similar to you. Sometimes I’ll take a bath and read my book in the bathtub. Sometimes I do a puzzle while my family watches sports, sometimes I call an old friend or sibling, sometimes I bake, do yoga, straighten my hair while watching Netflix…

My commute is hell (2 hours each way) so all I have the energy for is to sit under my blanket and zone out to a TV show.

You need to stay away from screens, at least a night or two a week. If TV isn't an option and your phone isn't an option, you'll sit there feeling awkward for a couple of nights and then (re)discover actual hobbies that are restorative.

I do cross-stitch, play board games, and do puzzles (both jigsaw and pen/pencil) and I often invite a friend over after kid-bedtime just to chat and hang out.

I change out of my work clothes, go for a walk (specifically near a place people walk their cute dogs so I can usually pet one), then come home and read for a half hour, make dinner, walk for maybe 15 minutes after that while dishes soak, then clean up from dinner, stretch, watch tv or talk with friends/family, then read for another half hour then sleep.

I drive the kids around to sports, walk the dog, make dinner, deal with the dishwasher/dishes, clean up the house and get ready for the next day. Once things are reasonably set, I sit down on the couch with my ice water and watch TV with DH (if available) and my dog (always available).

I drive kids around and wrangle homework and activities and requests.

I am the same way, and I wish I had more energy! I’m a teacher and single mom, and by the time I come home and walk my dog (I try to take her for a long walk or hike 2-3 days after work), I barely have enough energy to make dinner and do a simple chore like laundry. My youngest just started college this fall so this is the first time in 26 years (age of oldest) that I haven’t had sports or kids activities to factor in my schedule. I think my body may just be exhausted after being on the go for so long? It feels like I was less tired in prior years when I was running around with the kids but I’ve also have some health conditions that haven’t helped.

I deal with mail/ clean up stuff, prepare outfit and food for the next day. Eat a light dinner- no cooking. I only cook on weekends. Watch TV/ Netflix with the dogs. Go to bed 8-8:30.

I take the dog for a 2 mile walk, have dinner, iron clothes for work, then make a Manhattan and watch television.

When do you all work out? In the am? I struggle with this because I really don’t want to work out after work but often I force myself to after I make everyone dinner otherwise I can’t fit it in. Mornings are taken up by getting kids out the door for school so I can’t get it in then or I’d have to be working out at 5:30 or 6am ugh
