Has your College kid gotten any luck finding a seasonal job in the area?
MY son has applied to several Seasonal jobs and gotten a few interviews but all have said no at the end due to the no-so flexible dates. Any ideas? what's your college kid doing to earn extra money during the holidays? |
| College kids work for university during school year, and have part time jobs from summer where they pick up shifts over breaks. |
| Its hard to find jobs over the winter holidays if you don't have a job you worked at last summer that will take you back - but sometimes you can find babysitting and driving gigs. |
| Mine got hired back by the company she performed life guarding work during the summer. She gets some weekend offers now as well. |
This. Mine picks up shifts at the restaurant where she works in the summer. But it’s not much because she isn’t going into their regular schedule, plus she also has travel conflicts. They need to make most of their spending money in the summer and save up. |

Continuation of restaurant job plus babysitting which honestly pays better. Tell your kid to post on the neighborhood list serv. Lots of babysitting needed around the holidays.

Are you saying your kid is looking for seasonal employment - but not available during the most in demand days for retail? Or not getting a job offer? Or something else? |
| If your DC is off in early December through MLK (a lot of private universities), have them register as a substitute teacher in FCPS. You can make a lot and they take college kids! |
| Uber Eats, Instacart, etc. if they don’t have a previous retail/restaurant job that will let them pick up casual shifts (or even if they do have that, to supplement). |
This. |
same - mine just started doing this at school and will probably do a lot while home on break |
| Mine is doing a work internship through university for a couple weeks. Ivy |
Yeah, that process takes weeks. Kid would have needed to start it back in September. Also given our wacky weather around here - can they get the 10 jobs required? If they are willing to go anywhere in the county, they probably could work every day. But if they only want certain school close, it becomes harder. |
